Directorate of Student Financial Assistance & University Advancement
The Directorate of Student Financial Assistance & University Advancement (SFA & UA) serves as a catalyst to support University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (UAJK) in fund raising, establishing public private linkages, help the students to meet financial requirements for their education, providing career services to students and developing alumni engagement programs.
No student should discontinue his/ her university education due to financial constraints

(a) Student Financial Assistance
Financial Assistance is provided to enhance opportunities for access to higher education especially to talented but financially constrained students who, despite possessing academic merit, are unable to finance their education. The Student Financial Assistance Section is responsible to:
1. Streamline financial assistance mechanisms for the meritorious and financially deprived students of the society;
2. Promote transparency in financial assistance programs;
3. Developing linkages with the community; industry, alumni, donor agencies and charitable organizations for raising funds for the Students and
the University endowment fund.
In this regard following main scholarship programs are being offered to the students:
- Prime Minister’s Tuition Fee Reimbursement Program for Selected Regions
- Pak-USAID Merit and Needs Based Scholarship Program
- HEC Need Based Scholarship Program
- Ihsan Trust Qarz e Hasna Scheme
- HEC French Need Based Scholarship
- HBL Foundation Scholarship
- Punjab Educational Endowment Fund Scholarship
Brief introduction and terms & conditions of these programs are as under:
Prime Minister’s Tuition Fee Reimbursement Program for Selected Regions
Under this innovative and special scheme, along with tuition fee, the federal government have paid other academic, incidental, or mandatory Fees charged by UAJK as one-off or on a per semester basis of Masters, MS/ M.Phil. and PhD students having valid domicile of AJK enrolled in UAJK. Refugees 1989-90 settled in AJK are also included in this scheme from FY 2016-17.
Coverage
Actual Tuition Fee (of Masters , MS/MPhil and PhD programs), and (b) On and Off Mandatory charges which includes Registration Fee/Enrollment Fee, Admission fee (For new admissions only), Examination Fee, Library charges(nonrefundable), Laboratory charges, Research related academic activities only.
Last year 1580 students (Masters, M.Phil. and PhD.) of UAJK were awarded with scholarships worth Rs. 34.527 million.
Pak-USAID Merit and Needs Based Scholarship Program
Financial Assistance under this program is available for study at undergraduate & graduate level in Sociology, Economics, Lingustics (English, Urdu, Kashmir Studies) and Psychology only.
Eligibility
- The applicant must be AJK/ Pakistan National.
- 50% of scholarships seats are reserved for females.
- Student must be enrolled in first semester in the respective degree program. The eligibility of a candidate is linked to neediness of the candidate as determined & assessed by the financial background of his/her family.

Last year 95 students (Bachelors, Masters.) of UAJK were awarded with scholarships worth Rs. 17.199 million.
HEC Need Based Scholarship Program
With the help of this program, UAJK aims to provide opportunities for academically qualified, yet financially needy, students of graduate and undergraduate programs to continue studies at UAJK.
Eligibility:
(a) All those needy students who are already enrolled in UAJK are eligible to apply. (b) The eligibility of a candidate is linked to neediness of the candidate as determined & assessed by the Institutional Scholarship Award Committee keeping in view the financial background of the family of the applicant.
Coverage:
(a) Tuition Fee, (b) Lodging, (c) Transportation, (d) Books, (e) Other Academics Costs, and (f) Rs. 6000 monthly stipend (for maximum 10 months per year) Last year 260 students (Bachelors.) of UAJK were awarded with scholarships worth Rs. 22.102 million.
Ihsan Trust Qarz-e-hasna Scheme
Major focus of this scheme is of providing Qarz-e-Hasna (Interest free loan) for Education to the needy and deserving students of UAJK. Through this scheme the Ihsan Trust bears the educational expenses of the students on purely “Need cum Merit” basis in order to enable them to complete their Higher Education. The repayment policy for the Qarz-e-Hasna is as follows:
1. The amount of Qarz-e-Hasna sanctioned to the selected student depends on his/her need and eligibility.
2. During the study period, the student has to pay a nominal, token repayment amount (depending upon the financial position of the candidates,
his/her parents/guardians monthly income) to the Ihsan Trust as repayment.
3. After the completion of his/her education, the repayment amount for the Qarz-e-Hasna is to be adjusted according to the income of the student. Ihsan Trust guidelines for the students availing Qarz e Hasna facility.
- The students availing Qarz e Hasna facility have to maintain their academic results up to the level of merit determined by the Trust.
- The students have to maintain the financial discipline during their time period of repayments.
- The repayments of the Qarz e Hasna will start the amount of fee of the student.
- The students should pay their repayments monthly within the first week of the month and intimate it to Ihsan Trust subsequently.
- The repayments can be deposited online in the account of Ihsan Trust from any branch of Meezan Bank Ltd. across Pakistan.
- The continuation of the Qarz e Hasna facility is subject to the academic performance of the student and the timely repayments of the Qarz-e-Hasna.
- The financial review of the student will take place before every new disbursement or the extension in the loan facility. In collaboration Meezan Bank, during the current academic year 2016-17, 10 cases have been approved under this scheme. Last year 08 students (Bachelors, Masters.) of UAJK were awarded with scholarships worth Rs. 0.161 million.
Pakistan-French Need Based Scholarship
Government of France through its Embassy in Islamabad offered scholarships for the studious but unprivileged students of UAJK.
Eligibility:
(a) Financial assistance & scholarships are available for study at undergraduate & graduate level in the prescribed disciplines at UAJK. (b) Only those students who are enrolled in first professional year in the respective courses offered by UAJK are eligible to apply.
(d) The eligibility of a candidate is linked to neediness of the candidate as determined & assessed by the financial background of his/her family.
Coverage
The program will support the students in University tuition fee and other expenses.
Last year 15 students (Bachelors.) of UAJK were awarded with scholarships worth Rs. 0.750 million.
HBL Foundation Scholarship
In collaboration Habib Bank Limited Foundation, UAJK has launched new undergraduate scholarship programme.
The HBLF undergraduate level Scholarships will be offered to meritorious students fulfilling the below mentioned eligibility criteria.
The student must have/ be:
i. Secured at least 65% marks in F.Sc/ F.A and got admission on open Merit basis.
ii. Not availing any other educational scholarship during the current academic year.
University Advancement
The responsibilities of University Advancement Section include:
1. Develop and oversee new and imaginative fundraising initiatives to maximize donations from individuals and the corporate sector and to develop
a wider network of potential funding agencies.
2. Design programs and activities that will respond to the needs, concerns and interests of alumni, friends and prospective donors to the University as a way to engage them more personally and actively in the life of the University.
3. Develop various programs and mechanisms for encouraging donations to the University and recognizing the generosity of all who contribute to fund rising programs.
(c) Career Services
The Career Services Section develops strategies to create and promote student, faculty, and alumni interaction in the formative process for students with respect to career planning, placement, and development. This section is also responsible for coordinating off campus student employment
opportunities such as internships and cooperative education programs by planning, and implementing a specified number of job fairs each year.
FINANCIAL SUPPORT/ SCHOLARSHIPS
Students, selected for admission to various courses/ programmes can apply for departmental merit scholarships paid to three merit holders. In the final year, scholarship is awarded on merit in the previous term. The scholarship is granted for a maximum period of 12 calendar months. - Scholarships offered by Higher Education Commission
- Faculty of Administrative Sciences Kotli provides merit-cum poverty scholarship to the students for each class of the academic session.
- Azad Jammu & Kashmir Government is very generous in sanctioning zakat scholarships. A large number of deserving students is getting full benefit of this facility.
- The Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and the Overseas Pakistani Foundation also provide scholarships to the deserving students.
Note: A student is eligible for only one kind of scholarship at a time. The scholarship committee invites application from the students for the grant of scholarships on merit basis.

Punjab Educational Endowment Fund
Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) has launched a new Master’s level Scholarship program under the title “Shahbaz Sharif Merit Scholarships (SSMS)”. During the last academic year 2016-17 the 17 Masters level Scholarships were reserved for UAJK under this program.

Eligibility Criteria:
The student must have/ be:
- Pakistan National
- Secured at least 60% marks or a minimum CGPA 2.5 in BA/ B.Sc. / B.COM/ BS/ BBA etc. examination.
- Secured admission as a full time student.
- Declared monthly income of parents ( from all sources) is equal to or less than Rs. 75,000/-
- Age limit (at the time of application) should not be more than 28 years.
- Not availing any other educational scholarship.
- Not a beneficiary of Prime Minister Fee Reimbursement Scheme.
(b) University Advancement
