Student Facilities

CAFETERIA

Muzaffarabad Campus houses purposefully erected one cafeteria at the city campus that caters to the needs of students. There are cafeterias at Chellah Campus and King Abdullah University Campus as well. These have ample space to organize student functions. University makes it sure that the food-items served at cafeterias are fresh, nutritious as well as economical.

DINING HALLS

There is a messing facility in each hostel of the University. Hostel mess is managed by a Mess Committee, consisting of the Warden as Chairman; and three to five representatives of the residents elected monthly/quarterly in such a manner as may be determined by the Warden. The Mess Committee elects a student as its Secretary. The Warden also acts as Treasurer. The Mess Committee is responsible to cater for good meals to their residents.

HEALTH CARE

Health care is considered most important both for students and employees of the University. The University has hired the services of a medical specialist for each campus to provide basic medical facilities to students and employees. To establish Health Care Centre with qualified doctors and paramedical staff at each campus is planned to look after the health of on campus students and the employees.

MOSQUES

Each campus has mosque and prayer facility for students and employees of the university.

CAREERS

There is a strong demand for UAJ&K graduates amongst prospective employers including multinationals and prestigious organizations of all sizes. The vocational focus of many of the courses and the integrated periods of industrial training help to develop the maturity and skills that employers look for. Employers are also aware that UAJ&K’s academic reputation attracts high caliber students. In recent years most of fresh graduates are doing full-time jobs, while others go on to further study.

COUNSELING

The counseling service exists to help students acquire personal skills, self knowledge and psychological resource which will enhance their University learning in terms of developing their full potential as students and emotionally healthy members of the community. This is achieved through counseling students individually or in groups; by contributing to the University environment through consultation and training; by studying the environment and recommending changes based on research data and judgment.

Counseling service also helps in career planning and career opportunity. Students’ worries and concerns include study difficulties, personal and relationship problems, food facility eating issues, etc. are addressed by counseling These may be sorted out through single sessions, short term support or counseling over a longer period.

A Career Counseling Centre has been established for guideline to the students to help them in career selection. The centre is open to all the students. The centre provides information on a wide range of occupations, employers, further study and vocational training. Students may wish to discuss plans with Career Advisers, or make use of the computer guidance system, or take part in training sessions run by the Centre.

ENTERPRISE AND INDUSTRY LINKS

The University of AJK is well-known for its strong links with business and we are keen to build on this and encourage enterprise culture among students and staff. Welfare of The Directorate of Student’s Affairs provides help in all possible ways in promoting talent and developing the personality of the students. It organizes seminars, symposia, debates and also provides an appropriate forum to the students to freely express and share their Views, perceptions and experiences.

It also organizes educational tours to give wide exposure on
educational and development programs of the state/country. Student career counseling center has been established which provides guidance in all matters from admission to job placement at the end of their study programs.

Accommodation

There are three hostels at Chellah Campus Muzaffarabad. One hostel for boys and two hostels for girls are currently accommodating the students of the 02 Campuses at Muzaffarabad. Furthermore, 06 state of the art hostels have been constructed at the King Abdullah Campus Chattar Klass out of which there are 03 boys’ hostels and 03 girls’ hostels. The students can apply only for those hostels which are near to their departments. Therefore, the students of King Abdullah Campus will be allotted seats in KAC Hostels whereas the students of Campuses in Muzaffarabad will be accommodated in the hostels in Muzaffarabad (Chellah Campus).

Each hostel provides mess facility and services of room attendants to its boarders in addition to recreational and other basic facilities. For the limited number of seats available at the above said hostels, policy of first come, first served is adopted. The office of the Directorate of Students’ Affairs accepts applications through the Heads of the Departments/ Institutes for the accommodation of graduate and postgraduate students. These allotments are made strictly in accordance with the departmental merits. However, handicapped students are given preference.

How to Apply for Accommodation?

All whole time students admitted directly to the university colleges/ Teaching Departments for a regular course of study will be eligible to apply for accommodation in the University/College Halls/Hostels, provided that:

Applications for allotment of seats in the Halls/Hostels shall be submitted to the Dean of a College/Chairman/HoD of the Department, (in triplicate on prescribed form available from the College/ Department).

The students will take copies of the forms along with three copies of their photographs (passport size) pasted on them and duly attested by the Director/Chairman directly to the Hall/Hostel Warden who will keep one form with him/her and forward two forms one to the Director Students Affairs (DSA) and the other to the Chairman/ Director concerned indicating on the forms the number of room allotted to the student.

The DSA will be kept informed of the changes made in the allotment of seats within the Hall/Hostels by the Warden.

At the beginning of each academic year, a resident student shall be required to produce a certificate from the Chairman/Director of his Department to the effect that he is on the rolls of the Department/College concerned in order to get the allotment of his/her Hall/Hostel seat renewed.

The detailed rules and regulations governing hostels accommodation can be had from the office of the warden of each hostel. However, some of basic rules are listed below:

Each selected student is required to give an affidavit to the effect that he/she will abide by hostel rules and regulations failing which his/her hostel admission will be cancelled. Fee for accommodation is to be deposited in advance at CSD/LSD. Each student is required to join the hostel mess. Self-cooking is not allowed. A student can avail hostel facility for the duration of the degree programs starting from the date of commencement to the date on which final exam terminates.

Hostel accommodation is limited and the University does not undertake any responsibility for compulsory providing hostel accommodation. However, every effort is made to facilitate the accommodation in university hostels.

Transport Facility

The University provides transport facilities in the form of university bus service ply in and around the city from early morning to late evening in order to pick and drop the university students. In addition, a shuttle service of university transport runs between the two campuses in Muzaffarabad i.e. City Campus and Chellah Campus and campuses outside the city i.e. King Abdullah Campus Chattar Klass, Jhelum Valley Campus, Hattian Bala and Neelum Valley Campus Athmuqam. Furthermore the university has limited number of buses so in order to allot the transport seats the policy of first come, first served is adopted.

Co-curricular Activities

With a view to providing healthy outlets and opportunities of personality development through cocurricular activities, students are encouraged to register new students’ societies and clubs. For the purpose, Students Societies Regulations are formed to regularize the students’ societies. Co-curricular activities play very important role in grooming personality of the students, enhancing their  communicational skills and increasing their confidence Student Affairs organizes these activities throughout the academic year. Students’ Council

We believe education is not influx of information, but more about imparting values and ideals that make our students personality complete. Backed with experience in education and knowing the real meaning of education, we are striving to make individuals one can
feel proud of. Without instilling the spirit of tolerance, compassion and commitment we cannot prepare our students for future.

The Directorate of Students’ Affairs has chalked out a comprehensive strategy to utilize the potential of youth. This step would provide the younger generation with the opportunities to express their talents and abilities, creating a healthy environment which would promote
the culture of tolerance and moderation.

Youth is the most important section of a society. Youth would be encouraged to come forward and play their role in nation building and progress of the country. The main objective is to eliminate the sense of deprivation and hopelessness among our youth.

The Directorate is striving hard to involve the youth in healthy activities by organizing different game competitions, festivals, rallies and creative programs within the University. In order to discuss the student related problems and propose their solutions, a student council has been established in the Directorate, to provide a forum to the students for mutual discussion the student council comprises on the first position holder students from different disciplines and officials of the Directorate of Students’ Affairs.

Literary / Debating Society

Literature is artistic aspect of life which provides insight into various cultural dimensions. In order to promote talent and develop the personality of the students a “Literary/Debating Society” has been established in the Directorate of Student Affairs to provide a forum to the students to give vent to their views, perceptions and experiences. The selection of the office bearers is purely made on merit. Keeping in view the performance of the students and the recommendations of the departments, the Directorate of Students’ Affairs selects
the best students for Debating Society at main campus.

Cultural Society

Dramatic activities help develop understanding of various dimensions of culture. To sensitize students to what is happening around them; Environment Society has been setup.

Media Club

Keeping in view the growing importance of media, a Media Club has been established. This Club aims to foster objectivity to react to media on spot and provide a forum where students can share their views and ideas on the developments taking place around the globe.

Sports Society

Adhering to the principle “a healthy mind lives in a healthy body”, Sports Society has been established which is devoted to organizing all sorts of sporting activities such as football, cricket, badminton, table tennis etc. Another benefit expected to fallout is preparing the athletes to represent the university in inter-university games competition.

Hepatitis Society

Liver is the largest organ inside our body. It helps our body to digest food, store energy, and remove poisons. Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver. Viruses cause most cases of hepatitis. The type of hepatitis is named for the virus that causes it; for example, hepatitis

A, hepatitis B, or hepatitis C. Drug or alcohol use can also cause hepatitis. In other cases, your body mistakenly attacks healthy cells in the liver. For the awareness of hepatitis, Screening and treatment across all Azad Kashmir, the Hepatitis society has been established in
the Directorate of Students Affairs.

Geological Society

Geology plays an essential role in many areas of the economy. Economic growth and sustainability, as well as societal well-being, will require reliable supplies of energy and mineral resources, a dependable supply of clean water and the secure and sustainable production of food. All this will be contingent on sustained investment in technology, infrastructure, education and skills development. The Directorate of Students, Affairs established Geological Society for the awareness of students.

Legal Education and Innovation Society

Legal education is the education of individuals who intend to become legal professionals or those who simply intend to use their law degree to some end, either related to law (such as politics or academic) or business. Intellectual property law is only one of many legal institutions that can help promote, stifle, or govern knowledge production. What role should the state playin innovation law, and where and how does the state play that role? How do we design a state that is intuitionally capable of responding to the challenge of innovating, as well as designing innovation institutions? The Legal Education and innovation Society have been developed by the Directorate of Students’ Affairs.

Seerat Society

Seerat society is an Islamic society established to implant Islamic values in the young minds of the students. Seerat society is organized by Directorate of Students’ Affairs. Seerat society arranges for many events to implant better understandings of Islam in young minds. Seerat society also invites mashaikh, and learned scholars for the benefit of the students.

Societies Managed by Students

There are a few societies which are working directly under the management of students of the university. For example, Guardian Council is a society which is raising funds for the needy students to pay their semester fee.

Self-Support:

The candidates who are interested for admission on self-Support basis shall apply on appropriate forms specified for the purpose. However Azad Jammu & Kashmir nationals/refugees settled in Pakistan shall be given preference. The selection of the candidate shall be on merit, which shall be same as prescribed for the selection of the candidate against open seats.

  • The number of seats allotted for the purpose shall be such as may be notified for the course /program, provided infrastructure facilities are available in the concerned departments) for the purpose.
  • The candidates selected against payment seats shall be required to pay normal fee chargeable from other candidates in addition to the fee enumerated herein after which shall be non-refundable.
  • The payment in full shall have to be made in one installment for the whole course, in the form of a demand draft drawn in favour of the Director Finance University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Muzaffarabad.

Migration/Transfer of Credits

Migration from another accredited institution and transfer of credits in genuine cases may be allowed subject to the regulations of the UAJK.

Vacations and Holidays

The Teaching Departments of the University close for winter and summer vacations as per the Academic Calendar issued by the University. Further the University observes such holidays as are notified separately from time to time.

Admissions

Foreign students desirous of getting admission in the University have to follow the procedure laid down asunder:

  • The application has to be made on the prescribed form together with the six latest photographs to the Embassy of Pakistan in applicant’s home country. The application will be forwarded to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Pakistan. The latter will obtain the clearance from all relevant agencies and send it to Ministry of Education.
  • Alternatively, the applicants can approach their embassy in Pakistan which will forward their applications to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which will follow the procedure prescribed above.
  • On receipt of the application from Ministry of  Education, it will be presented to the Admission Desk to determine eligibility of the candidate.
  • If successful, the candidates will be informed by Director Students’ Affairs providing details of admission, commencement of courses and payment of fees and funds.

Accommodation

After earthquake, the Muzaffarabad Campus was damaged. To cater to the residential needs, one boys hostel and one girls hostel at Muzaffarabad has been built with the generous grant from the HEC.
Each hostel provides mess facility, services of room attendants and telephonic facility to its boarders in addition to recreational and other basic facilities. For the limited number of seats available at the above hostels, the office of the Directorate of Students’ Affairs invites applications through the Heads of the Departments/ Institutes for the accommodation from graduate and postgraduate students.

English Language

Students must be able to speak, write and understand English so that they can follow their courses and we need to see evidence of proficiency in English Language; as a guide, this means a IELTS score of 6.0, a TOEFL score of 60 or equivalent qualification.
