Central Library

The Central Library is well stocked with books, journals and related materials and more than 31,000 online research journals. Under the National Digital Library Programme, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) provides access to scientific and scholarly literature through international Network for Scientific Publisher (INASP). The University has been linked to this facility from April 2004, providing access to over 11,600 peer-reviewed full text online International academic journals and more than 20,000 abstracts from some of the world’s top publishing houses including Blackwell Synergy, CABI, EBSCO, Oxford University Press, Mary Ann Leibert, Springer link, Science Direct and JSTOR. Equipped with bibliographic and other databases, the programme aims to support capacity building in the research sector by strengthening the production, access and dissemination of information and knowledge.

The University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has a dual system of library services. Apart from the Central Library, every department has its own departmental library. The Central Library includes the following units:

  • Technical Section
  • Reference Services
  • Readers Advisory Services
  • Computer Section

CIRCULATION SECTION: Responsible for providing reading materials to the library members periodically to support academic needs.

REFERENCE SECTION: Offers reference support to research scholars by developing library networks and coordinating with collaborating universities.

ACQUISITION SECTION: Manages procurement of books and reading materials using allocated annual funds.

TECHNICAL SECTION: Handles classification, cataloging, library automation, and indexing of current databases.

ARCHIVAL SECTION: Recently established to preserve cultural heritage through donated documents, enhancing the library’s archival value.

The Pakistan Scientific & Technological Information Centre (PASTIC) also operates a sub-center in the library, offering research/reference services. In addition, the Centre of Excellence in Technological Entrepreneurship Development (CETED) has been set up by the Pakistan Science Foundation.
