Iqbal Day Reflecting on the philosopher of Freedom

In a significant announcement on Iqbal Day, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi revealed plans to establish an Iqbal Chair within the Urdu Department at the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK). This chair will be dedicated to promoting research on the philosophical contributions, literary works, and ideology of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, aiming to inspire students and scholars to explore his timeless teachings in depth.
In addition, Prof. Dr. Abbasi shared that one of the three state-of-the-art hostels at the King Abdullah Campus will be renamed as the Allama Iqbal Hostel, paying homage to the great poet and philosopher’s impact on generations and his vision for youth empowerment. This initiative not only acknowledges Iqbal’s enduring legacy but also seeks to embed his inspirational philosophy within the UAJK community.
These developments underscore UAJK’s commitment to honoring intellectual and cultural icons, furthering academic excellence, and fostering an environment that celebrates Pakistan’s rich literary heritage.
A heartfelt tribute was paid to the great thinker, poet, and philosopher Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal at a thought-provoking seminar organized jointly by the Kashmir Cultural Academy and the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK). Held in honor of Iqbal Day, the seminar titled “اقبال کا فلسلفہ حریت” took place at the Education Hall, Chella Campus.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi, addressing an engaged audience, extolled Allama Iqbal’s revolutionary poetry and philosophical ideas that continue to inspire the Muslim world. He emphasized that events like these are crucial for highlighting the contributions of our forefathers and for transferring this knowledge to the younger generations. “Iqbal’s ideology and philosophy are timeless, offering a beacon of guidance for our youth. His vision of self-awareness, resilience, and freedom are lessons that resonate deeply with the challenges of today,” Prof. Dr. Abbasi remarked, urging students to delve into Iqbal’s profound works.
Director General of the Kashmir Cultural Academy (KCA), Mr. Faizan Arif Mughal, lauded Iqbal’s philosophy for its universal appeal, inspiring liberation and self-realization. Dr. Muhammad Kareem and Dr. Mir Yousaf Mir shared insights into Iqbal’s vision for a free and self-sufficient society. High-ranking military officials, Haq Nawaz Mughal, and others also paid homage to Iqbal, highlighting how his works motivate us to seek unity and strength in our cultural and national identity.
The event was attended by officials from UAJK and KCA, faculty members, and students from various departments, all coming together to celebrate Iqbal’s legacy. This tribute not only honored Iqbal’s contributions but also served as an inspiration for the youth to explore his teachings and carry forward the legacy of freedom and self-determination.
