Coordinator’s Message:
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Software Engineering (DSE). We at DSE offer the degree program in B.Sc. Software Engineering. Since its inception, the Department is playing a vital role in developing skilled software professionals. Our mission is to discover new ideas based on Information and Communication Technologies and apply them for the welfare of the nation. Our every effort is dedicated to establishing a knowledge-oriented learning environment where our competent faculty members offer their best output and students are encouraged to show their best. Our courses are a unique blend of the core principles of the discipline and new advances in the fast-moving world of software and information technology.
We are rightly proud of our academic performance, but at DSE learning means much more than the quest for better grades. Extracurricular activities are evenly important here, and we are really aware of our responsibility to prepare young people who can enter professional life as confident, helpful and responsible citizens. There are efforts of good people behind every successful institution, and I believe that our teachers and students are the best to achieve any height of excellence.
Introduction
The program of B.Sc. Software Engineering was started under the umbrella of the Computer Science department in 2009. Later, the department was separated and established independently under the Faculty of Engineering and Sciences from the CS Department in October 2013 vide letter no. 4826-40/Gen/2013.
Department of Software Engineering is offering a B.Sc. degree, and M.Sc. in Software Engineering. Software engineering encompasses a wide range of topics, including software requirements, specification, analysis, design, implementation, verification, deployment, reengineering, project management, and the evolution of software products. An orthogonal perspective of the discipline includes engineering software systems for performance, reliability, security, scalability, maintainability, etc. It also encompasses economic and organizational aspects.
The department came under the umbrella of PEC in Fall 2017. PEC’s zero visit was held on 07 Sep 2017, and a green signal was granted to launch the B.Sc. Software Engineering program from Fall 2017.
Before this, the program was accredited through NCEAC. After the approval of the zero visit vide letter No. PEC/EAD/UAJ&K/DL-83/Comp (Zero)/2017 dated: November 07, 2017, PEC’s interim visit was held on 09 December 2019. After a successful interim visit, permission to continue the program was granted vide letter No. PEC/EAD/UAJ&K-M/Software/Interim/DL-94 dated: January 29, 2020.
For the first accreditation of batch 2017, the PEC team visited the department on January 11, 2022.Based on the satisfactory level of compliance, PEC has granted accreditation of one year for the batch 2017-2021 under the level-I, vide letter No. PEC/EAD/UAJ&K-M/Software/C-DL/2022 dated: June 22, 2022.
For the first re-accreditation of batch 2018 and onwards, the PEC team visited the department on October 03, 2022.Based on the satisfactory level of compliance against accreditation criteria/ quality standards and implementation of Outcome-based Assessment procedures and CQI, PEC has granted accreditation for two consecutive batches 2018-2022 and 2019-2023 under the level-II, vide letter No. PEC/EAD/UAJ&K-Mzd/Elect-Software/DL-108 dated: December 26, 2022.
