The University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK) proudly celebrates the remarkable achievements of its faculty and students at the 9th International and 18th National Conference of Plant Scientists (INCPS 2024) held at Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan. Demonstrating their dedication to advancing plant sciences and research, the Department of Botany at UAJK made a profound impact on this prestigious platform. Uneeba Roshan, one of our talented students, presented her research on Stevia cultivation in AJK, showcasing the potential of local botanical initiatives. Syeda Tatheer Fatima Naqvi, a PhD scholar, brought honor to UAJK by securing first place in the poster presentation competition.
Faculty members further elevated UAJK’s standing, with Dr. Rehana Kausar, Vice President of the Pakistan Botanical Society and former Chairperson of the Botany Department, delivering an insightful lecture on Protein Modelling and DNA Barcoding of Lamiaceae species from Poonch Valley, AJK. Her work on species identification and conservation highlighted the urgent need for biodiversity preservation. Dr. Raja Waqar Ahmed Khan, Assistant Professor, presented an influential keynote on soil carbon sequestration and forest ecosystem dynamics in Muzaffarabad, emphasizing climate change resilience. Our delegation, consisting of dedicated MPhil and PhD scholars, actively participated in technical sessions, engaging with plant scientists nationwide and furthering UAJK’s research mission.
As a crowning achievement, UAJK’s Department of Botany proudly announces it will host the 10th International and 19th National Conference of the Pakistan Botanical Society next year, a significant step forward in botanical sciences. Special thanks to Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi, Vice Chancellor of UAJK, for his vital support in bringing this conference to our university in 2025. We eagerly anticipate welcoming the country’s leading plant scientists to UAJK next year for another impactful exchange of knowledge and innovation in botanical research.
