In order to bridge the gap between supply and demand of Software Engineers, the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Muzaffarabad has established the department of Software Engineering in 2009. Its aim is to prepare Software Engineers having a strong sense of civic, professional and ethical responsibility with ability to apply engineering principles, practices and processes to develop, deploy and maintain software systems. The Department of Software Engineering has been preparing students not only for exciting and challenging careers in Pakistan particularly but also for regional and global markets. We have developed an outstanding reputation, locally and internationally, for the quality of our teaching and research. The program at the Faculty of Engineering involves combination of research, learning and practice. Alongside ‘research-led teaching’, there is the theme of theory and practice.
BSSE degree program of Software Engineering Department is approved and accredited by the National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC) in X Category. University is planning to have its accreditation from PEC as well.
Currently department houses following computer labs:
1. Computer Programming Lab
2. Software Engineering Lab
3. Hardware & System Lab
In all these Labs, networking facilities have been deployed for twenty-five computers in each. The entire computer Labs have been fully equipped with latest Core i-7 computers. Forty Eight MB dedicated PERN connectivity has been deployed and internet facilities are provided.
Department of Software Engineering also arrange different sort of events in order to encourage students to take part in those events and groom their technical as well as non-technical skills. The events that have been arranged so far are; Cloud’15 Olympiad, Cloud’14 Olympiad programming Competitions (in C++, Asp. Net etc.), Project exhibition (Semester & final Year Projects), Literary and Sports. Workshops are being held on different software development tools like C#, as well as Freelancing and Deep learning.
Moreover a departmental website has been developed by the students of Software Engineering with the guidance of faculty, which makes everything so effective and easy, the time table, and result display and lectures as well as notes. It also provides access to the student data and previous records.
The Department of Software Engineering also have its active IEEE Chapter and a student’s society named as “Software Engineering Society”. IEEE Chapter arrange the seminars and workshops on emerging topics on regular basis. Software Engineering Society provides a platform to the students to take an active part in the social activities.
The UAJK envisaged growing as a major modern center of excellence for engineering education and research in state of AJK. We have already been placed among the most dynamic, fastest growing and excelled faculties in engineering sciences in the state. The faculty endeavours to venture into new programs like other engineering disciplines. Over the next few years we will continue the process of self-evaluation, renewal and growth.
